Movement

Automatic winds from wrist motion and suits daily wear. Hand-wound needs a morning wind and allows a thinner case. Quartz is accurate, cheap to maintain, and a little less "alive".

Material

Steel is the right default for a first watch. Gold and rose gold are for a second, once you know what you love. Titanium for those who feel every gram.
